Who?

Jarais Musgrove is a non-binary/genderfluid performer, writer, artist, and teacher from Joliet, IL. They began entertaining the community and their family before they could read and write. During primary school, Jarais began singing and acting on the stage in the district's peace advocacy performance-based group Children 4 Peace. In middle school, they became a more experienced vocalist, singing in their school's concert choir and the district's All City chorus. It was in Jarais' last years of grade school when they began performing in plays and musicals, doing competitive theater and speech and debate, and receiving formal dance training. They studied ballet, jazz, modern, tap, hip hop, and African at Generation Dance Co. of Joliet, IL before attending the Chicago College of Performing Arts' Theater Conservatory and receiving a BFA in musical theater with a dance concentration. Currently, Jarais resides in the Chicagoland area, and dedicates time and thought to strengthening their performance skills, discovering ways they can continue to imbue activism into their work, personal projects, and networking with like-minded artists. They aim to challenge the colonialist ways of modern society as a means to freedom for all individuals through performance, creations, fashion, music, politics, spirituality, and everyday life.
